Latest Android Phones with Android 4.2 – May 2013

Android 4.2 launched about half a year ago, but only some of the latest Android phones that have arrived on the market have been able to get this newest version of Android.

The good news is that some of these latest Android phones are really good ones, and they are all flagship devices from each company.

Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is the newest Android phone from a top manufacturer like Samsung. It’s the best selling Android smartphone out there, and has reached 10 million sold units in less than a month. One of the reasons why it’s so popular is that it also comes with the latest Android 4.2 version, but it has some great specs, too:

  • CPU: Samsung Exynos 5 Octa (quad core 1.6 Ghz ARM Cortex A15/quad core 1.2 Ghz ARM Cortex A7)
  • GPU: PowerVR SGX 544MP3
  • Display: 5″ Super AMOLED, 1080p resolution
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Storage:  16 GB (about 8 GB free)/32/64 GB, microSD slot
  • Camera: 13 MP
  • Front-camera: 2 MP, 1080p video recording
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, DLNA, Wi-fi Direct
  • OS: Android 4.2

Asus Padfone Infinity

The Asus Padfone Infinity is Asus’ flagship Android phone for this year. Asus isn’t huge in smartphones yet, but they are trying to be successful. They haven’t had a lot of luck, I believe mainly because of their branding for these phones, which gets a little confusing, because the names are very similar to their tablets.

These phones can be physically integrated into some of their tablets, but I don’t think people really want that, which is probably why they aren’t interested in it, even though the phone can very well be used on its phone, and it has some great specs, too:

  • CPU: quad core 1.7 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S600
  • GPU: Adreno 320
  • Display: 5″ Super IPS+ LCD, 1080p resolution
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Storage:  32 GB
  • Camera: 13 MP
  • Front-camera: 2 MP
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-fi Direct
  • OS: Android 4.2

Alcatel One Touch Idol X

The name is a mouthful, and probably not very easy to remember, but the phone itself looks pretty great, especially from a company like Alcatel which almost seemed forgotten in the phone market. The Alcatel One Touch Idol X has great specs, too, just like you’d expect any flagship phone to have this year:

  • CPU: quad core 1.7 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S600
  • GPU: Adreno 320
  • Display: 5″ IPS LCD, 1080p resolution
  • RAM: 2 GB
  • Storage:  16 GB
  • Camera: 13 MP
  • Front-camera: 2 MP
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-fi Direct
  • OS: Android 4.2

It’s a good thing that at least the latest Android phones coming to market feature the last version of Android, but it would be much better if other phones would be upgraded sooner, and perhaps even more importantly, if all new phones coming out now would have Android 4.2, instead of just Android 4.1. But if you really want the latest version of Android right now, then the above phones are all great devices.
