The PlayStation 4 was the biggest console launch in gaming history. With 1 million units sold on day 1, the PS4 is by far the biggest console launch ever. Cumulatively, PS4 sales have amassed over 6 million units worldwide with a very successful launch in Japan just a week ago. On average, that’s 1.5 million sales per month, or more than 50,000 per day! With 6 million PS4 units sold, it now officially beats the Wii U with 5.8 million sales which was released a year ago. The PS4 is also on good track to amass double the Xbox One with 3.5 million sales.

Sony has asserted a lot on the “connectivity” part of the PS4 on their blog. They have even given numbers. For instance, There have now been more than 3.6 million live broadcasts, and more than 56 million spectate sessions on PS4 through Twitch and Ustream. For a fact, since January 1st, PS4 gamers account for 20% of daily broadcasters on Twitch stream. PS4 owners are also pressing the share button on the DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller, with more than 100 million shares captured as fans show friends their latest achievements on Facebook and Twitter.

Sony has also allowed developers to take advantage of the PS4’s new interactive live broadcasting gaming features and integrating modes that allow broadcasted gameplay to become interactive for spectators. Even as a viewer, you can now influence the livestreamed gameplay. According to Sony,

For example, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition features a built-in Broadcast+ mode where you can stream your gameplay while viewers on the PS4 or a web browser influence positive and negative effects during gameplay. More social feedback is on the way too, with Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition in March and Daylight in April.

Despite the amount of sales the PS4 has amassed, there is no doubt that the Xbox one will have a great year 2014 too, but, the PS4 is clearly the winner of the next-gen console wars.
